Another season of our favorite series that experiments with balancing story with fanservice. High School DxD is one of those series that I want to take seriously, but can't -- especially when the ending of this season concludes with all the girls, in the club, move into Issei's house. And me complaining about contrived things in a post isn't going to change the pandering, because this is the way the series is.
That weird mix and match of a "serious" plot about world conflict of demons, angels, and fallen angels, while having a protagonist who is basically powers by breasts. That contrast makes for a weird conflict in my head where I see some scenes hinting at political conflict of the three major powers, then in a different scene we have Akeno secretly seducing Issei.
I guess the reason I still enjoy, and look forward to, the series is the fact that it has no shame. Whether it be Issei himself, or the way the show presents explicit content, High School DxD doesn't care if it has the obvious displays of fanservice; they are loud and proud to show off their beautiful lady lumps, and no one is going to stop them -- except maybe Koneko.
The season itself had it's ups and down, but overall I did have a good time watching this new found escalation of power. I do think they just piled on power play, almost to the point of most people feeling a lot weaker than they should be. If they do get a third season, the series should probably pull back or pretty much everyone, besides the dragons, are going to be perceived as strong as a wet noodles.
On to other non-serious things, I'm really falling for Akeno even more. Now that she is actively pursuing Issei, even with the knowledge of Rias loving for him, we get to see her not hold back anymore and that it wonderful.
I do want to see a new season for High School DxD. I just need to remind myself to not take it as seriously as I want to. So lets hope to seem more High School DxD in the future, because this series is great and I need more seductive Akeno. Ara Ara~
