New season of anime means there are new series to watch, along with continuations of older series. This medley of anime is my first impression to some of the new anime coming out with a small description of what I know, as of the first episode.
Btooom!
A 22-year-old, unemployed male named Sakamoto Ryout, plays a play Btooom!. He is pretty good at this game and ends up becoming 10th in the world, until he get randomly stranded on an island. This island turn out to be a real-life version of the bomb based game he was so good at and now he has to survive on this island with others, who have similar goals.
At first glance, the art reminds me a lot of Death Note, but the concept is very interesting to me. The first episode sets itself up well enough were I know what is happening and it is a survival game basically. Dark themes are always entertaining to me, so I will be keeping up with this anime for sure and hope it continues to be interesting.
Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai!
One of the more anticipated anime this season, "Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai!" is basically about teen suffering from chuunibyou, eight-grade syndrome. Togashi Yuuta, the male protagonist, is trying to stay away from his chuunibyou while Takanashi Rikka, female protagonist, is embracing it proudly.
The mini-episode I saw before the real one didn't do the anime much justice because you could feel the pandering of Rikka being overly "cute", by being clumsy. The real episode was pretty decent, there are some over-exaggerated animations. I can get past that and I actually think this could, if executed right, be an anime that teaches people to be themselves, even if its not normal.
K
K follows a teenage boy name Isana Yashiro who apparently is the seventh king, colorless king. Yashiro doesn't know it to true, but he has committed some crimes and there are two gangs after him for it, and they have some kind of different magic for each of the gangs.
The story is a bit up in the air because there wasn't much introduced in the first episode beside magic, kings, and the gangs. This is another over the top art and animation with its mix of 2D and 3D transitions. I'll have to see what else is there in the next few episode, but right now there isn't anything to scratch at beside surface level things.
Little Busters!
A group of friend use to fight evil and protect justice under the name "Little Busters" when they were younger. Now as teens in high school they are forming a baseball team under the same name.
As of the first episode, this series isn't catching my interest at all. Maybe it is just because of the introduction, but Little Buster doesn't have much personality for an anime with an art style to bright. I guess these generic school life style anime are wearing off of me, but I'll give Little Busters maybe two more episodes before I drop it completely.
Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo
A normal male protagonist, named Kanda Sorata, lives in a dorm where most people consider it the "loony bin", but in lamins term they are not of the norm. One day he meet the cousin of the dorm supervision or teacher. The cousin's name is Shiina Mashiro, who is essentually a deadpan personality who is also a great artist.
Wasn't that interesting to me, the attempted comedy felt really focused and were very noticeable in their attempts. You could walk down an description of another male protagonist and find them identical and just as forgettable. I'll try to watch more to see if they pull something better from what they have, but it doesn't seem like there is much here.
Shinsekai Yori
"Shinsekai Yori" is centered around a religious town centered around powers called "Juryoku", translated to English it mean gravity. The children of the town try to develop their skills in school. Also there is some kind of "cat-spirit" that snatches away children before they graduate, never to be seen again.
This was pretty much all that was introduced in the first episode. I wouldn't take that as a great summary because this episode was fairly vague and I'm guessing they were going for an eerie feel. I'm some what interested in this anime and the art style is really nice, but I will have to see a bit more to determine if I will actually watch throughout.
Suki-tte Ii Na Yo
Tachibana Mei, is a 16 year old female that ended up with a lack in trust of most people because of her years of being bullied. This resulted in her not having any friends or a boyfriends until she kick a popular boy in school name Kurosawa Yamato. Yamato began to take interest in her and is on a mission to be reconized by Mei.
A few minutes in I could generally guess that this a romance for female, but I didn't care too much about that. Unlike romance comedies these kind of romance stories are a nice change in pace and Suki-tee Ii Na Yo doesn't pull any punches with kiss for Yamaro just to protect Mei from a stalker. This will be a romance I'll be looking at closely since I usually see comedy in the mix, it will be interesting to see what we get from the series.
To Love-Ru: Trouble - Darkness
A continuation of the original story of To Love-Ru, mainly focusing more on the sisters of Lala, Momo and Nana. Rito is now set as the next king of the Develuke and Momo is trying her best to get a harem started for Rito.
There isn't much to say for this season, if you liked the previous one you may like this one because they stick to the same formula of female all over Rito and he gets nervous to the point of embarrassing himself as comic relief. I would note that there is more ecchi in this, but at the same time it is censored to kingdom come with the mighty thick fog, extra bright lights and endless black void.
Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun
You can sum this up as a romance comedy, "Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun" is revolved around Mizutani Shizuki, a girl that is pretty obsessive about her grades. Also Yoshida, a deliquent who is pretty childish and aggressive, but get the top grades without trying.
The episode had a lot of things happening all in one and it went from zero to sixty in a one episode sprint. This series seem very interesting since I haven't seen a romcom this entertaining in a while, and the art style reminds me of Kimi ni Todoke. I will be looking forward to the next episodes going one and hope for it to be as promising, just not as dense as the first episode was.
Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster
"Zetsuen no Tempest" is centered around Takigawa Yoshino and Fuwa Mahiro who are childhood friend that use to fight together and be pretty much unbeatable. However, after Mahiro's sister dies he become determine to find out why it happened and ended up disappearing for a couple of months. When Mahiro returns he has magic powers give by Kusaribe Hakaze, the sorceress that got abandoned by her clan and left to die on a deserted island.
These types of anime aren't what I typically watch, but I gave it a shot and actually enjoyed the first episode. The setting was laid out well, but the story was left to be fully explained in later episodes. I'm not really a fan of the action genre, so we will see how the story plays out for me with the mix of fighting scene, but right now, I'm willing to keep watching.
