Another week of Anime Suggestion Sunday is here, and this week we are looking at Hyakko. If you missed last weeks, it is located here.
As a freshman in high school and it being a new school, Nonomura Ayumi and Iizuka Tatsuki, ended up getting lost in the massive grounds that is made up of Elementary, Middle, and High School -- Kamizono Academy. In an attempt to look for the way to class, the meet an eccentric blond -- named Kageyama Torako -- that jumps out one of the schools buildings, as a shortcut to her class. With Torako's forceful nature, them and her right-hand lady, Saotome Suzume, become friends and work through many troubles that happen during their school life.
For a slice-of-life, that is mostly episodic, I found the fact that they spent time to craft each character inside of Hyakko, plus in a quite comical way, it felt way more meaningful of an anime -- compared to others in the same genre. Hyakko even has an plot -- showing up towards the end of the series -- that ties all the characters that, Torako brought together, into this cohesive story that make the anime feel less episodic. Hyakko is at heart a very light hearted slice-of-life comedy, that has a lot of character; if you enjoy these styled anime, with a sprinkle of somewhat serious plot, Hyakko is something you want to watch.
