Right from the start I had this familiarity toward how the characters are designed in Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil and had to figure out what anime I recognized this from. Turns out it is from Mezzo and I do remember watching it, but maybe I didn't finish it, which is why I didn't really remember it right away. So now that the mystery has been solved, I found myself enjoying the subject matter that Wizard Barristers is coving.
There are a ton of anime out there where magic is incorporated in the plot, but not really that many cover what a society with magic and non-magic users would looks like. With this anime covering the law side of things, it is a nice break away from all these high school based ones. So right away we are put into a situation where a magic user gets sentences to death after killing a bunch of people; this not only sets the tone for what's to come, it also represents of how strict the law is on wrongful use of magic.
Really Wizard Barristers is the Law & Order of magic use, and I find that really intriguing considering that most magic use is always put on such a high level that it can't be touch by normal humans. With restrictive laws and non-magic police, it really feels like the use of magic has been put on the level of everyone else -- basically normalizing it. Considering this anime has already got me talking about it's world, there isn't much objection from me in continuing Wizard Barristers.
