Undead Lover
We continue on with this weekly Halloween themed posts with a stranger topic. As a special occasion of it's usual nature, I started this post off with a wonderful take on getting you brains ate by a zombie, so enjoy that because it is experimental for me.
Staring deeply into her blank red eyes like giant pools of blood freshly spilt along the floor. I now realize that she isn't lovingly staring back at me, it is more of a glare that one has when she has caught her meal. Slowly she inches her way up to my face, and I feel her frigid blue skin brush up against me. It was quite clear what was going to happen to me as she begins to open her mouth, preparing to crunch down on my cranium. I lose all my strength and the only thing I can remember was the smell of rotting flesh, right before she fiercely bites down.
One of the more interesting mixing of genres I've seen this year, romantic horror, where we have our male protagonist falling in love with a female zombie. The anime I am speak of is of course Sankarea.
Sankarea revolves around Furuya Chihiro, the male that fethisizes zombies because of his obsession toward horror films and Sanka Rea, the girl with the overprotective father, and she turns into a zombie thank to such wonderful parenting.
This series certain has a more realistic view on zombies, if there was one, where the stages of a decaying body are addressed, like rigor mortise. The attention to detail shows where the focus of the series was, which was the undead rather than the lover part. Since Rea hasn't grown up normally, we are focus on her trying to live as a normal girl, even though she is a zombie now.
Now, hypothetically what would it be like if you had a zombie significant other? More than likely, if they kept their personality, you would be taking care of their body because it is slow decaying and heat is only going to speed up the process.
There is also a chance of your significant other losing oneself to hunger, if her zombie personality actually ate human flesh, and began to make a feast of your squishy meat body. Unless you enjoy being bitten into, there isn't much excitement out of switching from lover to lunch.
In all fronts, it would be a hassle to actually deal with those pesky zombie problems that pop up every now and then. Only person that can apparently deal with it is Chihiro and his obsessive attitude with zombies. Which made Sankarea really alluring type of anime with a fresh look at what we look at as a normal relationship.
Strange mash ups of the romance interest being a supernatural being, not including vampires and werewolves, is an appealing sub-genre to romance. It makes you look at love between people and presents their struggles more blatantly compared to regular human clashes.
