I'm a bit late to the party on the new OVA from Sankarea, where we have Baabu narrating for a majority of this episode. It was pretty nice to see his stance on living a zombie life, from a not so damaged perspective, compared to Sanka Rea. He has a far more relaxed and level headed view of living the undead way, and for being a cat, he is quite well versed on the matter of decaying bodies and other behaviors of the zombified corpse.
However, that isn't really the focus for why I'm writing this post; the overall episode felt more like an OVA where there was no real story progression, but near the end is where things start to change. We are introduced to this zombie owl and a lovely blonde lady, who was reading some research about reanimated corpses entering a "confusion stage", where their emotions, desires, and instincts get fused together and they can't tell the difference between them.
This is essentially the wink and nod of, we might have more coming for you; a second season if things go according to plan, and I really do hope for it, because I did enjoy Sankarea enough for it to land in my 2012 top ten.
Beside, them ending the OVA -- that most people consider the 13th episode -- with that information hanging out there, it would be too cruel to leave all that out there without any intention of better explaining it with another season. And the counter argument to this is just reading the manga. However, I do like keeping manga as a last resort, so this will be a game of wishful waiting.
Final verdict of this OVA/13th episode is really -- if there is no new season -- it was pretty much a glorified tease that is pointless. But if the do pull out a new season, this is probably one of the better sells for the series for me, and it has got me excited for what's to come in the series -- since it didn't seem like the series had much else to go on, prior to this OVA.
