Kyoukai no Kanata - First Impressions
I really am going back and forth with the slice-of-life genre; I thought the fact that their is some supernatural elements in Kyoukai no Kanata it would spice it up, but I was wrong. This first episode initially grabbed on to my interest with the strange transition from talks of suicide to a declaration of love for glasses. Sadly, the grip was very loose as I soon saw that tired pattern that most slice-of-life tend to do.
It might be because I don't find the characters all to interesting -- mainly because their isn't much to set them apart from other anime series, besides their appearance -- but this is most likely what is holding me back. Without the hook from the characters, even the supernatural elements of blood manipulation -- which reminded me of Deadman Wonderland -- didn't seem that intriguing enough.
It is very rare for me to feel bored on the first episode of an anime, and I don't like that I do. I hope that Kyoukai no Kanata gets better, but I'm very skeptical of where this series might go and whether I will continue to watch.
