Well, I'm a week later to the punch, but I wanted to do my first impressions of the new season of Fairy Tail even with the second episode already being out. So believe it or not, this was my most anticipated anime coming out this season and I'm happy to see that the first episode pretty much came swinging right where it left off. So right off that bat, I noticed the slight change in art style; and that isn't a bad thing, we are talking about an anime that started in 2009 and is now coming back in 2014. So the art still does feel familiar to last season but there is something slightly off. It might just be the character design that is different but I welcome the refresh.
Beside that, I found myself easily remembering a majority of the characters despite not having re-watched the previous season. So I felt reintroduced back into the world of Fairy Tail pretty fast after the small portion of this episode that was dedicated to showcasing the many character's mannerisms. And soon enough, we jump right into the continuation of the story.
Thanks to Wendy using Milky Way magic, we were able to be taken on a wonderful history lesson of how dragon slayers were created. Basically this form of magic was pasted down to the human from dragons who wanted to coexist with humans; after a big disagreement from other dragons that only cared for humans as meals, soon enough the argument turned into a war and these humans with dragon slayers magic gave them the upper hand. The thing that has always been strange to me about dragon slayer magic is the stronger you delve into it, the more dragon-like features you acquire; also the Jade Dragon Zirconis's information we found out that one person actually did turn into a dragon. This is just one weird fight fire with fire and the other fire ends up being stronger, and that is logically inconsistent, but it works somehow in this world.
Either way, the person that ended up turning into a dragon was Acnologia, the one who was summoned in Tenroujima Island, the dragon king. So a good amount of connection are being made with this and the other information about Zeref being able change humans into beasts, like dragon Acnologia -- which is why he could summon Acnologia on that island.
Luckily, I don't have to wait for the second episode because of my lapse in getting to this episode, but I'm glad to see Fairy Tail back with such a strong start. There will certainly be some interesting development to occur in the future -- especially after what happened to Lector. And as a side note, I do have a feeling that Natsu and Lucy will get a bit closer simply based on all these foreshadowing of them being super intimate in the intro song. It might just be a friendly jester in Natsu's mind, but I'm still hoping for a little more.
